Thirteen-year-old Verity Leung has been training in classical piano since age 5. Her early training was with Mr. David Vandereyk, and she currently studies with Dr. Wayne Weng, a Steinway Artist. She has had masterclasses with John Perry, Ilana Vered, Larry Weng and Tony Yike Yang. Verity’s playing has been described as “technically impressive” with “beautiful fluency and facile flair” while being “sensitively nuanced” and “artistically thoughtful”.
Verity is the recipient of many piano awards on the provincial and national levels. She won First Place in her age category in the 2021 and 2022 Canadian Music Competition and the 2021 B.C. Provincials. In 2023, Verity won the Canadian music category of the B.C. Provincials. She is two-time Gold Medalist of the Royal Conservatory of Music, most recently in 2022 for Level 10 piano.
Verity released her debut piano CD album in September 2020 during the pandemic lockdown and raised approximately $25,000 for a charity in Vancouver serving vulnerable refugee claimants. Outside of piano and philanthropy, Verity is a passionate parkour practitioner, percussionist and poet.
