Music Program Coordinator for Special Music School High School

Kaufman Music Center is seeking a Music Program Coordinator for Special Music School High School.  This position reports to the High School Dean of Music.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Producing rehearsals, student performances and juries, including permits, set up, scheduling, and tracking
  • Assisting in all aspects of the admissions process
  • Helping with instrument maintenance and care
  • Maintaining the calendar and schedule for the high school: providing calendar/event information to Kaufman Music Center staff and faculty, students, families, New York City Public Schools (formerly the Department of Education), and the Special Music School Parent Teacher Association
  • Scheduling of teaching and rehearsal spaces for the high school
  • Coordinating high school assessments, juries, concerts, performances and recruiting events.
  • Liaising with students, faculty and staff to organize documentation for the music program such as performance request forms, jury forms, concert programs, grade collection, assessments, etc. 
  • Serving as the initial contact with families, faculty and outside parties regarding school events, schedules and requirements
  • Facilitating communication among various constituents, including faculty, guest artists and Artists-In-Residence
  • Maintaining student files
  • Tracking and monitoring student attendance in music classes, ensembles and private lessons
  • Assisting in the purchasing of supplies and instruments
  • Supporting the Special Music School Director and High School Dean as needed.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate is organized, methodical and able to work in a fast-paced environment. Must have ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and have outstanding telephone etiquette and interpersonal skills. Music background required, and experience in an arts/education environment preferred. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are very important. Computer skills: Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Google Suite.  Music software knowledge would be a plus.

Salary:
$50K per year

Part-Time Lucy Moses School Music Program Coordinator

Kaufman Music Center seeks a part-time Music Program Coordinator for its Lucy Moses School, reporting to the Lucy Moses School Assistant Director.

Primary and shared responsibilities include:

  • Processing phone, online and in-person registrations
  • Advising parents and adult students about group class selections
  • Reporting the status of class enrollments; assisting in follow up with cancellations or waiting lists
  • Preparing of class lists for teachers; communicating with faculty about changes in class and lesson enrollment for billing and payroll purposes
  • Assisting in scheduling classes, lessons and piano tunings in studios
  • Collaborating on recital and concert preparation
  • Arranging auditions, placement, sessions and other special events
  • Administrative support for LMS Director
  • Outreach about programs to parents and prospective adult students
  • Contacting teachers, parents and students about absences
  • Working with Marketing and Communications staff on LMS related projects

Requirements:

  • Music background is required, experience in arts and/or education environments preferred
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office, working with databases
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, and outstanding telephone etiquette
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Organized and methodical with excellent attention to detail

The position is part-time, approximately 25 hours per week, in person.

Hourly Rate:
$25 per hour
